The pear is cut in the traditional Russian style — a brilliant crown over a fancy pavilion, built to throw light rather than protect weight — and it repays the choice. Turn it in hand and natural fingerprint inclusions catch the light and break it into flashes of gold and green across the face, an effect this material produces entirely on its own. The body color is a warm yellowish-green, and GFCO confirms it as untreated natural corundum from Sutara, Russia. Most rare stones stay rare because supply is limited. This one is rare because supply barely exists at all.
