Alexandrite

Gemologist’s Note
Long, slender and elegant, this 1.295 ct Russian alexandrite from the Malysheva mine in the Ural Mountains is cut as an elongated pear that gives an impressive 9.62 mm length for its weight, presenting a large, eye-catching silhouette on the hand or at the throat. In daylight the stone shows a true emerald green, the same rich hue for which the Ural emerald mines are famous. Under incandescent light it shifts to a soft, smoky light violet, a clear and natural color change that reveals the alexandrite identity of the stone from morning to evening. Its interior is openly and abundantly included, filled with white fibrous sprays that spread through the green like frost flowers on a winter window. Glittering healed fractures catch the light in tiny rainbow sparks. These are the unmistakable natural features of Malysheva alexandrite, a crystal that grew among the mica schists of the Ural emerald belt, and they give the stone a distinctive, almost botanical character. The pear is Russian cut, measuring 9.62 × 5.50 × 3.20 mm, with a spread, shallow profile that maximizes face-up size and lets the color play across its full length. In person it is a living stone whose green glows brightest in natural daylight. It is natural and untreated, confirmed by the Marianovich Gems Certificate of Authenticity. Over a carat of genuine Ural alexandrite with a visible color change, an elegant elongated outline and a characterful natural interior make this an accessible way to own authentic Russian alexandrite, ideal for a drop pendant, statement earrings or a collector seeking the character of Malysheva material.
