Ruby

Gemologist’s Note
The first thing this ruby does is look big: at 9.11 by 6.25 millimeters it presents like a stone of two and a half to three carats, yet weighs just 1.10 — a wide, shallow emerald cut that puts nearly all of its size where you actually see it, across the face. Burmese in origin, cut as an elongated octagon, it has clean, architectural lines. The color is a classic purplish red, but the stone wears it brightly — lively and full of light across that big open table rather than dark or sleepy. Like most rubies, it has been heated. For anyone who wants the presence of a much larger ruby in a striking, elongated silhouette, this is a stone that wears far bigger than its carat weight suggests — assessed and stood behind by Marianovich Gems.
