Ruby

Gemologist’s Note
A small but intensely colored natural corundum in a vivid, hot pinkish-red — bright, lively, and full of flash in person, with a saturated color that reads well beyond its half-carat size. The hue sits right at the border between pink sapphire and ruby; assessed conservatively it's a pinkish-red sapphire, though the red is vivid enough to invite the ruby comparison. I believe it to be from Andilamena in Madagascar, a deposit well known for exactly this kind of vivid red-to-pink corundum, and its lively internal silk is consistent with that source. Unheated and entirely natural, presented transparently under my own assessment — a genuine untreated stone whose colour does most of the talking.
