Demantoid

Gemologist’s Note
Look into this 1.150 ct Russian demantoid garnet from the Poldnevskoye deposit in the Ural Mountains and you find a whole world inside. Not one but several horsetails sweep and curl through the crystal. Their fine fibers bend like windblown grass, cross and overlap, and catch the light in golden and green threads, forming a living inner landscape that changes with every angle. A tiny russet crystal sits at the heart of the main horsetail, the seed from which the fibers grew. It is a detail that turns the stone into a natural miniature to explore under a loupe. Horsetail inclusions are the defining signature of Russian demantoid, and a stone where they create this much depth and movement is a true collector’s piece. The body color is a juicy, saturated green, fresh and vivid, warmed by golden glints from the fibers within. The round brilliant is Russian cut, measuring 6.51 × 6.50 × 3.85 mm. Its spread-out proportions give a generous face-up size for the weight, so the stone looks larger than its carat weight suggests. In person it is bright and animated, with green and spectral fire flickering through the web of fibers as it moves. It is natural and untreated, confirmed by the Marianovich Gems Certificate of Authenticity. Vivid color, an extraordinary multi-horsetail interior and fine Russian cutting make this a captivating Poldnevskoye demantoid for the collector who values character as much as color, and a rare natural gemstone for a ring or pendant with a story.
