This 0.99 carat pear-shaped sapphire is a product of Ratnapura, Sri Lanka – the legendary "City of Gems" whose alluvial gravels have yielded fine corundum for centuries. The pink saturates evenly across the full length of the pear, from the pointed tip through the rounded base, with no visible zoning or windowing. What stands out most is how the stone behaves in hand: rather than reading flat, it throws constant, lively flashes of light across the facets as it moves, with strong brilliance returning from nearly every angle – the kind of liveliness a photograph only partially conveys.
