A natural, unheated corundum in an unusual purple-red — a color that sits right on the border between ruby and sapphire. GLC classified it as sapphire; in my own assessment the red is strong enough that it sits at the ruby end of that boundary, and stones from the Winza deposit in Tanzania (which I believe to be its source) are well known for straddling exactly this line. Either way, it's a genuine, untreated corundum with a rich, unusual color and the honest internal character of a natural stone. I'm presenting it transparently: reported as sapphire, with a color that invites the ruby comparison — you can judge the stone on its own merits.
