Cornflower Sapphire

Gemologist’s Note
A Ceylon sapphire of 4.69 carats — approaching the five-carat mark, a substantial weight for fine blue material. The color is a bright cornflower blue, open and luminous rather than dark, the shade that has made Sri Lanka the benchmark for classical blue sapphire. The stone is exceptionally lively: its brilliance carries the eye across the face, and in the hand the play of light largely absorbs the natural inclusions within. Reported by the Chanthaburi Gemological Laboratory as natural sapphire, with indications of heating — the standard and universally accepted treatment for blue sapphire.
