Demantoid

Gemologist’s Note
This 1.695 ct Russian demantoid garnet from the Korkodino deposit in the Ural Mountains brings together the qualities collectors rarely find in a single stone above 1.5 carats. Its color is a rich, juicy, saturated green, deep and velvety yet never dark, glowing evenly across the whole face. At its heart lies a textbook horsetail inclusion. It is perfectly centered, with fine fibers radiating symmetrically from a single point beneath the table like a starburst. This symmetrical horsetail is the classic signature of Russian demantoid and an unmistakable mark of natural origin. The round brilliant is Russian cut, measuring 7.22 × 7.20 × 4.52 mm. Its classic, well-balanced proportions give a generous face-up size along with strong brilliance. In person the stone is bright and lively, scattering vivid flashes of fire with every movement, from a dispersion higher than that of diamond. It is natural and untreated, confirmed by the Marianovich Gems Certificate of Authenticity. Fine color, a centered horsetail, precise Russian cutting and a weight approaching 1.7 carats together make this a rare collector-grade Ural demantoid and a true investment gemstone, an ideal centerpiece for an engagement ring or a bespoke solitaire.
