Demantoid

Gemologist’s Note
Large demantoid of this weight is a rarity in itself. This 2.645 ct Russian demantoid garnet from the Korkodino deposit in the Ural Mountains pairs that size with a color few stones near three carats can match: a deep, juicy, velvety green of true emerald intensity, saturated through the whole body of the stone. Its interior is filled with an exceptionally dense horsetail, a fine web of countless silky fibers woven through the crystal. It softens the stone’s transparency and gives it a distinctive velvety, glowing appearance, like light diffused through green silk. Such an abundant horsetail is a vivid record of the stone’s natural growth in the Ural serpentinites and an unmistakable signature of Russian demantoid. The round is Russian cut, measuring 8.20 × 8.20 × 5.45 mm. Its substantial 8.2 mm diameter gives it a bold, commanding presence on the hand. In person the stone glows rather than sparkles: its color stays rich and luminous in daylight and under warm light alike, with soft flashes of fire flickering through the silk. It is natural and untreated, confirmed by the Marianovich Gems Certificate of Authenticity. Its near-three-carat weight, outstanding deep green color and a horsetail of remarkable density make this a true collector’s demantoid and a rare investment gemstone, perfect for a dramatic cocktail ring or a statement pendant.
