Alexandrite

Gemologist’s Note
Small in size but intense in character, this 0.320 ct Russian alexandrite from the Malysheva mine in the Ural Mountains shows the kind of strong, dramatic color change that has made Ural alexandrite the reference standard for the gem worldwide. In daylight it is a dense, deep green, dark and concentrated like old forest shadows, with flashes of brighter green where light strikes the facets. Under incandescent light the green disappears entirely and the stone turns a deep purplish ruby-red with glowing magenta sparks, a powerful contrast that shows how much chromium-driven color this small crystal holds. The stone is translucent and openly included, with the natural veils and mineral inclusions typical of Malysheva material, which formed in the mica schists of the Ural emerald belt. Here they deepen the color's velvety intensity and confirm its untreated, natural origin. The slender pear is Russian cut, measuring 5.42 × 3.32 × 2.30 mm, a delicate size perfect for fine jewelry. In person the stone reads as rich and dark, coming alive when light catches it and revealing its color shift clearly from window light to lamplight. It is natural and untreated, confirmed by the Marianovich Gems Certificate of Authenticity. A strong green-to-red color change in authentic Malysheva alexandrite makes this an accessible gem for a delicate ring, a minimalist pendant, an accent stone in a custom design or a first piece of genuine Russian alexandrite.
