Alexandrite

Gemologist’s Note
By day this 0.670 ct Russian alexandrite from the Malysheva mine in the Ural Mountains could easily be mistaken for a fine Ural emerald. Cut as a classic octagonal emerald cut, it glows a true emerald green, saturated and fresh, a reminder that alexandrite and Russian emerald were born in the very same mines. When the lights change, the illusion breaks beautifully: under incandescent light the green vanishes and the stone turns a soft pink-plum violet, the transformation that has defined alexandrite since its discovery in the Urals. This is the old jeweler’s saying come to life: an emerald by day and something entirely different by night. Its classic proportions frame the color in clean step facets, and in person the stone is noticeably lively, with light rolling across the steps and sparkling off fine internal reflections as it moves. The crystal carries the natural inclusions typical of Malysheva alexandrite, fine needles and silky healed fractures that catch the light. They confirm its untreated origin without stealing its liveliness. The emerald cut is Russian cut, measuring 5.60 × 3.80 × 3.10 mm, a refined, wearable size suited to fine everyday jewelry. It is natural and untreated, confirmed by the Marianovich Gems Certificate of Authenticity. Emerald-green daylight color, a beautiful change to pink-violet and a classic emerald cut make this an elegant piece of genuine Russian alexandrite, perfect for a delicate cocktail ring, a vintage-style pendant or a bespoke design honoring the history of Ural gemstones.
