This 0.75 carat sapphire from Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, was cut as a round brilliant – a rich, honeyed golden-yellow with warm undertones deepening toward amber at the edges of the pavilion. The round brilliant is a genuinely uncommon cut for sapphire – precision faceting of this kind demands more rough loss than an oval or cushion, so seeing it executed this well on a corundum of this size is notable in itself. The cutting is exceptionally precise, with crisp, even facet junctions and excellent optical symmetry that sends light straight back through the crown in a tight, radiating pattern. In hand the stone is extremely lively, throwing constant sparkle across the full face with no dead zones, and clarity is outstanding – the stone reads clean to the eye with excellent transparency throughout.
