This 3.945 carat pear-shaped tourmaline comes from the Malkhan pegmatite field in the Transbaikal region of Russia, source of some of the finest raspberry and magenta tourmaline in the trade. The color is a rich, saturated pink-raspberry with a magenta undercurrent, deep and full-bodied across the whole pear-shaped face. The Russian faceting is nearly flawless, with a long, well-proportioned pear silhouette and crisp, symmetrical facets that draw light cleanly down to the tip. Clarity is fairly good – a few small feather-like inclusions are visible under closer inspection, typical of natural, unheated tourmaline from this locality, and they don't disrupt the overall brilliance or transparency of the stone at normal viewing distance. In hand it's extremely lively, throwing bright, saturated flashes across the facets as it turns. The color is entirely natural, with no heat treatment applied, confirmed by the accompanying Marianovich Gems Certificate of Authenticity.
